About

I have always been a maker, a maker of all things, no matter the medium. I am curious about the ways things are formed and can be worked together to create something new or make something better.  Sewing and embroidery is an early and happy memory.

Tailoring is as much a craft as it is an art form. I find so much beauty in that. The structure, nature and historic rules of tailoring, yet the absolute freedom to break those rules at any point. Experimentation, trial and error, the result is never wrong, nor is the process it took to get there and the result can often be considered art.

Tailoring to me is the process of working with a length of cloth and an individual, and the pleasure of visualising and constructing a garment in a personal way. It allows connection with the person and the process through collaborating on ideas, coming up with something entirely new. I find it extremely romantic, the cutting, the making, the fitting, the cloth. The full arc of the process. I think that’s one thing I find most beauty and satisfaction in. The way you can take something so seemingly inanimate and create a beautiful reflection of an individual’s character in such a way that you can see that person in the garment before it has even been worn by them. Tailoring has a magic. A magic to conceal, to accentuate, to alter how a person feels or wants to be seen, all starting with a length of cloth.

Clothes should last a lifetime. The subtleties of tailoring is a consistent streak throughout my work. My intention is that these garments will last forever. They should be able to be altered by shape and size, and made to fit a new person’s character in the future. Wear your treasures. Fix them. Reinvent them. Pass them on. I like the idea of generational clothing.
